Two-Phase Child Orthodontic Treatment
Will My Child Need Two Phase Orthodontic Treatment?
That’s a great question our orthodontic team can help answer! While many children can achieve a healthy smile in one treatment phase, it’s important to decide early on if it’s more beneficial for your child to receive a two-phase treatment. Because the dental development in children is fairly predictable our AAO orthodontist can determine what dental problems may arise before your child begins growing permanent teeth. From there, a plan can be set in place.
The first phase in the two-phase treatment begins when a child has some remaining baby teeth. Braces or custom appliances may be applied in this phase to align the smile. The second phase often begins once most of the permanent teeth are in. This phase is designed to ensure a child’s teeth are properly set in place for a long-lasting smile.
